Statler Hall

A plaque to a member of the Statler Club Staff, 1LT, Karl F. Perry, who was killed in action in Vietnam is just inside the north entrance to the Hotel, off Peter Plaza, where the famous Herakles statue is located. Karl Frederick Perry was born October 4, 1946 in Dayton Ohio and grew up in Ithaca, New York. He graduated from high school in Ithaca in 1964 and attended Corning Community College before enlisting in the United States Army in 1965. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. on March 15, 1967. Karl attended parachute training and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He was reassigned to the 1st Division in South Vietnam in October 1967. He was killed in action in the Binh Duong province on April 2, 1968 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia. [5]

The Statler Hall previously featured a plaque commemorating the 27 “Hotelies” who died in service in WWII. The plaque reads, “Dedicated to the memory of the men of the School of Hotel Administration who gave their lives in World War II” Listed on the plaque are the following names:

Each of these names also appear on the WWII memorial at Anabel Taylor Hall.

This plaque has been temporarily removed due to construction and we are working with administration to have the plaque rededicated. Once the plaque is re-dedicated we will update this page to reflect its location.
